Notary Public & Legalisation

A Notary Public attests deeds, contracts, and other instruments that are to be used abroad and to issue a certificate of the due execution of such documents duly authenticated by his signature and notarial seal. Unlike a Commissioner for Oaths, a Notary Public is able to witness a document in a foreign language signed in front of him.

The Notary Public’s duty is to;-

  1. Administer any oath or affirmation in connection with any affidavit or statutory declaration which is executed;
  2. Confirm and prove the due execution of any document for the purpose of being used in any court or place abroad, outside Singapore;
  3. Take or attest any affidavit or statutory declaration.

** Kindly note that as of 01 October 2019, Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment) Rules 2019 and the Notaries Public (Amendment) Rules 2019, it is MANDATORY for all notarised documents to be authenticated by the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL), a process that was previously optional.

The Authentication Fee of $85.60 (incl of GST) is to be paid to the Singapore Academy of Law in addition to the usual Notarisation Fee to the Notary Public. You may wish to watch the video published by the SAL with regard to the “New Mandatory Authentication Explained” here . You may also wish to visit SAL’s Legalisation website here.

With the aforementioned, the documents will require a longer processing time as when a document is notarised, the Notary Public will notarise the document first before sending the documents to SAL for authentication. Payments are to be made upfront at the Notary Public’s office for the Notarisation and Authentication.

Kindly refer to the following table for the Notary Public Statutory Charges for Notarisation as of 01 October 2019.
